Breaktime Bible Study: My Vow
Making Vows
I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you. Psalm 56:12
A vow is a promise that David made with God. It is unlike the obligation David had to follow God but a more profound commitment under pressure. Maybe we have done the same. Vows usually are made when life’s stresses are overcoming us, and we make a promise to God if He delivers us.
Every day is a day of vow with God in some ways.
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. James 5:12
Speaking truth is what God requires of His children. What we say we are going to do, we allow our yes to mean yes. This means when we make a promise, we follow through with our heart of yes. Breaking a promise hurts a relationship and breaks trust. Thankfully God follows through every promise He makes. We follow God with a constant yes in our hearts.
But we all know we do not always follow through with our yes. There is forgiveness when we admit our wrong. When we acknowledge our fallen yes, we can indeed be restored. The question is, do we recognize when we fail to keep a promise?
