Breaktime Bible Study: Taking Refuge
Taking Refuge
Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1
David’s reaction to disaster is to take refuge in God until the disaster passes. He is asking God for His mercy and protection as the storm arises. When life gets tough, David repeated himself asking for mercy, but he knew exactly where to go for shelter.
Where does our faith lead us during this season of disaster? Where are we going to find refuge? We are a fugitive running from a disease, but we don’t have to fear. We can take shelter in the comfort of the presence of God. We all have sheltered in our homes, trying to keep ourselves protected from the disease.
But for most, it isn't COVID we need shelter from; it’s the fear or anxiousness that preys on us. Our hearts need refuge from allowing ourselves to grow weary and frustrated to the place of anger in a time of uncertainty. We need what David needed, mercy, and the shelter of God’s shadow over our hearts. But will we like David− take what God wants to provide?
