Breaktime Bible Study: Asking for Help

Asking for Help

Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love. Psalm 44:26

The only way the Psalmist can be helped out of his situation is with the unfailing love of God. The conclusion to all of his difficulties rested in God’s love. He understood that even though he was walking through the shadow of death − he knew God’s love. The writer was asking God to rise up and help them.

Sometimes life is fragile and delicate, but this is to be expected, but the difficulty is how we are responding when life does happen. One thing we can assure ourselves is God’s love doesn’t fail. It may take some time to get there, but His love is higher than ours. God sees the rest of the story while we are in the midst of our pain.

Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7,8

Jesus says for us to ask, but when do we pray −what do we need? If we have lost contentment and peace during our suffering, the greatest prayer could be for peace. The very presence of God can bring us through with His unfailing love. But are we willing to let go of all bitterness and anger? He can give us the strength to let go, and many times the greatest prayer could be not my will, but your will Lord. Releasing control will provide us with freedom to walk through the storm.
