What is the joy when trials come your way?

Blaming God

You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us. Psalm 44:10

Now the Psalmist seems to narrow in on his disappointment with God. He is blaming God for the place of retreat and the loss they have experienced. The enemy has forced them into hiding and has taken their valuables. The author now cowers under the enemy, and his plan of attack is to blame God. Instead of planning a way of escape with God, he has retreated to blame.

Oh, how many times have we done this? The easy way out is to sit idle in complaining mode, especially accusing God. It may feel like the right way out is to blame, but could it be we hide from the answers? The solution could be right in front of us, but instead, we waste the emotional energy on looking at whose to blame.

Could it be God led them to a place of retreat, but what happened to praising God in all circumstances of life? Often through the difficulties, we learn more significant inner changes. The trial before us could be precisely the place God is doing more than we can imagine.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:1-4
