Breaktime Bible Study: Pursuit

The Pursuit

Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit;

all day long they press their attack. Psalm 56:1

David knew the enemy around him was in hot pursuit to the depth of death for him. They desired to capture David and make him a pawn in their plan. David was a threat to them, making his capture all the more valuable. David learned through it all that God is where He found his success, even in the pursuit.

Not many of us have ever had the threat of being physically pursued, but the enemy still longs for believers to fall. The risk may be different than what David felt, but the effects may feel the same. We may panic when fear comes our way or may have stress at work, for the enemy longs to overcome us with discouragement. He knows if we can go to panic mode, then we are vulnerable to be attacked.

Friends, especially now, it is not the time to panic or react in fear. Like David, we need the mercy of God to carry us through. We need His protection now to surround us with His shield of faith. We must remember to center ourselves on what He can provide. Panic doesn’t come from Him, but peace fills us for God is pursuing us.

Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
