“LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” Psalm 16:5
There were nothing and no one else David knew that would be his portion and cup. He was aware that lots of people could offer their help and security, but he was mindful of the fact that God alone was his strength. The interesting point is David was King, which meant he was entitled to many sources that could be his strength and fill his cup.
Where do we go in this world to be filled, secured and strengthened? It almost sounds like money will offer us everything we need. It brings fulfillment, security, and power. However, we all know it can also become a sought-after force that cannot satisfy. We may have even tasted wealth and know that it cannot offer what it promises. It could even be more than money such as anything that offers itself to us in this world as security and power, but we need to be aware of the cost.
Nothing can replace the security, power, and satisfaction that the Lord offers. His power and safety have no limits, for they go beyond temporary shelter. His cup is eternal. The things we may think are providing us fulfillment will only be a temporary engagement. They too will soon run their course. Can we agree with David, and allow God to be our portion and cup?
Today in the workplace:
Is God the source of your strength?
