David now takes a turn from praise to describing his situation. He is overwhelmed and experiencing being entangled in the cords of death. He is not above undergoing the pressures of suffering nor above the constraints of feeling the ugliness of pain. He felt just as we do when we are surrounded by influences of suffering.
Are there times when we are overwhelmed? The feelings of desperation occur when our faith is being choked. When faith is tested, we can encounter bouts of doubt and fear. The trials of life refine us, but it may take some choking to release what needs to be released. It may take a season of being overwhelmed to walk away in a stronger, different place. It may take a period of our life to prepare us for our eternity.
Persecution, no one enjoys the process, but the outcome can be just what we needed. During periods of hardship, it is admirable to be vulnerable and express the experience. We are not stronger when we deny the realness of our life. When we counterfeit our issues with a smile instead of the despair of the situation, we too are phony. How can we begin to find healing if we are not being real with ourselves, others and God? God can be trusted with how you feel, and it allows Him to be brought into our pain. It could be the first step to admitting the pain.
Today in the workplace:
Are you real with others? Real with the Lord?
