“The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Psalm 18:2
David experienced the Lord as his rock, and he knew Him personally as His deliverer. God was the only one David would run to in all of life. When David needed protection from the arrows of the enemy, it was the Lord as his shield. He knew the Lord as his sanctuary, his place of comfort and peace. There is no wonder he was the man after God’s own heart. He was King and yet dependent on God as his fortress. In a rocky environment, David found God as his steady foundation. He didn’t reach out to the world for his comfort because he was in love with the Lord.
So, where do we go when all around us is falling apart? When we stand on the rock that will not fall, we will find ourselves remaining. The steadiness the Lord provides is for His children under his care, and we should follow as He leads us into his provision. The Lord provides his care for His children.
Is there any situation in life in which God cannot deliverer us from? Is there any heartache we experience which we can run to him as our stronghold? Is there any weakness in which God cannot overcome with his salvation? We need the Lord, but the trouble is, do we realize the need?
