Right Thinking

“The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.” Psalm 19:9

David cannot seem to say it enough of how significant it is that we get this truth about the Word of God. We all listen to words daily, and many of them are thrown out, but some stick to the wall of our mind like glue. We take in opinions, teachings, training, and instructions each day. Our minds are often on overload, and many times to relax we turn on another source of words.

Words drive us, because of the power they hold, as they help us make decisions and choices for life. However, are we listening and holding onto the right words for life? What are the words glued in our minds that help us make the moral decisions we need to make daily? Have we glued the word of the world’s standard and found ourselves becoming lax in our decisions? If we are not in the Word of God, then another source is in us making those life changing and altering choices.

God’s Word has righteousness far above any other resource we have. When we partake of His Word, His right ways are being imparted. Light comes on, and some of the thoughts we have stuck in our minds become unglued by His Word. The Word has the power to convince us of changing our minds and hearts on matters we thought were alright. Be cautious of the resources you have opened in your life to make decisions.

Keeping it Clean
in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes. Psalm 26:10
David mentioned he washed his hands of all impurities, unlike the wicked whose hands are full of wicked schemes. But he also knew that his hands could easily lay prey, and he desired to keep his hands full of the love of God instead of participating in the wickedness around him.

How quickly we can become involved in the slightest offense when we take our cues from the world. There are many practices which may seem right in the world but don’t hold up in the Word of God. There are many ways which may even bring prosperity to our families, but our hands may have to become dirty. How quickly temptation may face us to tell a white lie or cheat to gain a bit of status, but once again we soon find our hands dirty.

It is a slippery slope, and it often starts with the small things, the ones easily justified. The question becomes, are we going to take the Word of God as our authority for the decisions we make or are we going to allow the influence of the world to guide our way? Seeking God’s Word as the authority may not always make us wealthy or the easy way, but it sure will bring abundance in the heart.
