Need Advice?

“The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.” Psalm 19:7

Who would have ever thought God had given us His Word to refresh our soul? When we understand the Word to be the very words of God, we can then allow it to refresh us and guide us in all we do. We all need to be energized in a world that can take all our dreams and hopes away. But God has answers for the depletion we may face daily. His Word is filled with the truth we need to walk in, but all too often we seek other resources to guide us.

The Word is perfect and refreshing, and what a combination of promises we have in the Word! When we are seeking perfect advice, where do we go first? All too often we may run to the advice of God’s creation instead of running to the Creator. When we are seeking wisdom or when we need refreshing where do we turn? Often, a vacation may seem to be the answer, but what if each day we took a mini vacation with the Word of God? What if we hide away with the Word of God and allow what is being said to pour over our soul?

Even at work the Word of God is trustworthy, and we are without excuse when it comes to being advised each day. The Word is a constant, and it will lead us in the direction we should go. Many times we make it more complicated than we have to, because we have more than Google. We have the Word of God.

Keeping it Clean
in whose hands are wicked schemes, whose right hands are full of bribes. Psalm 26:10
David mentioned he washed his hands of all impurities, unlike the wicked whose hands are full of wicked schemes. But he also knew that his hands could easily lay prey, and he desired to keep his hands full of the love of God instead of participating in the wickedness around him.

How quickly we can become involved in the slightest offense when we take our cues from the world. There are many practices which may seem right in the world but don’t hold up in the Word of God. There are many ways which may even bring prosperity to our families, but our hands may have to become dirty. How quickly temptation may face us to tell a white lie or cheat to gain a bit of status, but once again we soon find our hands dirty.

It is a slippery slope, and it often starts with the small things, the ones easily justified. The question becomes, are we going to take the Word of God as our authority for the decisions we make or are we going to allow the influence of the world to guide our way? Seeking God’s Word as the authority may not always make us wealthy or the easy way, but it sure will bring abundance in the heart.
