The final Thursdays in Pella event of the summer is this evening, with the theme of Need for Speed.  Activities begin with the Dans Company performing at the Tulip Toren at 6 p.m., and numerous themed displays and booths around the square, including Dutch Masters cars, a race car, and Marion County Public Health.

The 2018 10K Ruck for Vets event hosted by the Knoxville VFW is scheduled for August 25th.  Participants will carry 40 pounds of gear and can walk, run or jog with all proceeds from the event will going towards the VFW 3519 Relief Fund. Senior Vice Commander Michael Braman said the relief fund provides immediate resources to veterans in need, whether medical or material support. It also provides for aid, assistance, and comfort to needy disabled veterans, their dependent family members, or orphans.

A gift from the Monsanto Corporation has turned into a gift for the larger Ottumwa community -The Wapello County 4-H Expo grounds received a new play set thanks to Judy and Verl Jackson, who were selected as the Wapello County winners of a $2,500 donation from America’s Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.  Both Judy and Verl Jackson have been active with the Wapello County 4-H as parents – Judy Jackson continues to serve on the 4-H Foundation Board.
