U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst called the Environmental Protection Agency’s commitment to at least maintain the current blending requirements for the Renewable Fuels Standard a “clear win” for Iowans.   Sen. Ernst and U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley made the announcement on Friday, Oct. 20 that EPA administrator Scott Pruitt had written a letter that ensured the EPA’s commitment to RFS. Senator Chuck Grassley said President Donald Trump ran a platform in Iowa that supported biofuels, and the president has asked Grassley to assure Iowans that he would continue to support biofuels.

The Ottumwa High School band will not be traveling to France to be part of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.  The school board voted unanimously Monday night not to sponsor a high school band trip to Normandy, France in 2019, said Board President Leisa Walker  on Tuesday. Attorney Andrew Bracken discussed a number of issues with the board, including the need for the school district to subsidize travel expenses for students who couldn’t afford to cover them at an estimated cost of $300,000.
