A pedestrian suffered minor injuries when a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office patrol car collided with them at the Casey’s parking lot in Monroe. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occured at 6:38 p.m. Jan. 4 when deputy Nick Aldrich was driving a vehicle in the east parking lot at Casey’s and struck an individual walking in the lot. Monroe Fire and EMS were requested and the patient was transported to an area hospital for treatment; the accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
The Iowa legislature gets back to work today, and Senator Amy Sinclair has education as her main priority for 2018. Sinclair, who is the Chair of the Senate Education Committee says an area for investigation is teacher leadership and compensation programs. Sinclair also wants to review studies on education and see how programs are working for rural people and make changes if needed. Sinclair also says tax reform will be a hot topic during the session as legislators will have to make changes to the Iowa tax code following the recent federal tax reform.
