A Waste of Energy

”You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.  Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished.” Psalm 9:5,6

This passage is a reminder that David understood and lived in the truth that God was in control. He could see the wicked, and He would have His way. Knowing that God can see the evil that is transpiring around us should bring assurance to our lives. David knew that the wicked would have their day of punishment and would get the punishment that was just.

Would it satisfy us to know that the nations will be punished for their actions? When we think of all the wickedness that happens around us are we content knowing that God is in control and will bring judgment? David did not seem to waste time seeking revenge or vengeance. Retaliation can waste our time and deplete us of the energy to serve.

We have all been wronged, but what if we turned the other cheek when it visits us? When the temptation is to seek revenge or even stand in judgment of their actions, at that moment, we need the reminder to turn the other cheek. Jesus says it so well,

“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” Matthew 5:9

Imagine what life would look like if we did not hold grudges and forgiveness was immediately active. What needs to be done in our lives for us to stop wasting energy on the enemies around us?
